Video Learning Diaries: Part 1

I’m David and I work for Acadsoc. As you may have seen in recent press releases, Acadsoc will soon be launching its own video learning website. The concept is very basic: you can access video courses through our website produced by either third-party providers or in-house (like I’m doing). Some of the content is pay-for-play, whereas a lot of the content will be free. I’m one of the people working on the content aspect of the site, by basically producing content for the site ready for its official launch in a couple of months’ time.

What I’m working on are two courses: one of them  is for people who speak English but know no Mandarin. I am British but I have learned Mandarin for over six years, so I do now know enough to be able to teach just a little bit (and that’s all I know). The other course is a course in English slang for native Mandarin speakers where I use Mandarin Chinese to explain how expressions in Mandarin can be translated accurately and fashionably into English. I am working at a rate of around one topic per week.

In addition, I am recording a video blog to share my views of all things education, with one video blog a week dedicated to talking about my time in Nanjing in China, where I learned my Mandarin and grew up a lot!

This diary, as it were, will be a record of my progress in producing my materials and also keep readers up to date on the latest happenings on video learning. Happy Reading!
